Similan Dive Center: Background.
Similan Dive Center is founded by Abraham Bogerd.
He lives together with his wife Amporn and son Daniel since the summer of 2004 permanently in Khao Lak.
Abraham is a down to earth guy , being a Dutchman he comes every day on his bicycle to work, brush the leaves in front his shop , chatting with passersby and enjoys a black coffee while reading the newspaper , at least ,if the neighborhood kids don’t ask him to make airplanes out of it. Ask him about his life and you know he’s a “Been there, done that guy “.
As a son of a captain he spends the first four years of his life at sea, after he moved to the country side of Holland. After finishing his education he went into the army and after a heavy training he became member of a reconnaissance unit.
He voluntary served in a peace keeping mission in Lebanon, which won him two medals
After coming back , he spend some time helping in the family business and went on traveling the world doing every job what came on his way from cleaning hotels to droving deer.
During that trip, he visited in 1988 for the first time Thailand and was impressed with the beauty of the country and the kindness of the people.
Back in Holland he worked 10 years as an environmental researcher at the laboratory of a glass factory.
Next to that, he was active in voluntary work at a youth center and committee member in local politics.
In 2000 he made the decision to move to Thailand and made his hobby his job. He worked as Dive Master, Tourleader and different managing positions in sales and operations.
Currently he is the managing director at Similan Dive Center.
